What Makes Paver Cleaning Different

• Efflorescence — a white, chalky mineral deposit that can appear on newer pavers as moisture moves through the material, common enough in new-construction communities that it’s worth knowing it’s not damage, just a mineral byproduct that proper cleaning addresses
• Joint sand loss — pressure washing pavers without care can blast out the sand between joints, which is why technique and pressure control matter more here than on solid poured concrete
• Weed and moss growth — joints between pavers are a common spot for weeds and moss to establish, especially in shaded areas
• Color fading and staining — sun, algae, and organic staining affect paver color over time the same way they affect any other exterior surface here

Why Sealing Matters After Cleaning

Sealing isn’t required, but it meaningfully extends the time between deep cleanings by protecting pavers from stain absorption, joint sand erosion, and weed establishment. For a newer paver driveway or pool deck, sealing shortly after installation (once any initial efflorescence has been addressed) tends to keep the surface looking new far longer than leaving it unsealed.
